The Moral of Chinese Patterns of Blessing Before the Eyes

The bat is a winged mammal. As “bat” and “blessing” (Fu) are homophones, the bat is often regarded as a symbol of happiness which could fall from sky like a bat. People have created many auspicious patterns with the bat as the theme, and “blessing before the eyes” is one of them. In this pattern, usually a copper coin is embroidered in front of the bat or the bat would carry the copper coin in the mouth and lie on the Ruyi, meaning a happy family.
